Martina G. Barnes, MS, LPC received her masters in counseling at Western Carolina University in 2000. She is a former grief counselor with CarePartners Hospice where she also served as a consultant in holistic treatment. Martina serves on the Board of Advisors and on staff at the Asheville School of Massage and Yoga as well as on the national board of the Susanne Marcus Collins Foundation for the support of the performing arts and humanitarian causes.

She is licensed by the state of North Carolina as an LPC, Licensed Professional Counselor and nationally by the NBCC, the National Board for Certified Counselors. She began mindfulness meditation training in 1984 and continues to teach meditation skills to individuals and groups. Martina is also a member of ISSD International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation and EMDRIA, the EMDR International Association. She holds specialty training in bereavement counseling, depression, anxiety and trauma recovery, and is a level two EMDR clinician.

She is passionate about helping others resolve trauma and negotiate difficult life transitions in pursuit of a higher quality of life. She is a trauma recovery specialist assisting in PTSD resolution, dissociative disorders, grief, depression and anxiety.

Martina has presented her work in holistic psychology, AIDS, wellness and the mind-body connection through meditation and guided imagery at both the state and national level at professional conferences and universities. As a hospice bereavement counselor Martina was a community grief educator to local businesses, churches and community organizations. She has been a speaker at trauma recovery conferences for victims of murder, suicide and sudden death. She continues her volunteer work as an educator for local and state hospice organizations in trauma recovery.

As a project consultant and writer Martina is the recipient of numerous audio grant projects on guided imagery and meditation on the subject of breast wellness, breast cancer, cancer, pain and healing relief.

Martina is ardent enthusiast about dancing the Argentine Tango, Hip Hop Bellydance, running, singing Jazz, and hiking with her dog, Angel. Martina is looking forward to helping her community on both a local and national level as a Red Cross Disaster Mental Health Care Counselor.
